Rewarding endeavour...

Every year the Rotary Club of Thirsk makes an award for endeavour to a year 6 pupil in each primary school in the area, as well as Thirsk School and Sixth Form College.

The idea started in 1987 as a means of Rotary being in touch with local schools.

It is made to a pupil who is recognized as adding something special to the life or ethos of the school, not necessarily for academic or sporting prowess, selected by the head teacher and staff.

There is an impressive commemorative shield upon which the recipient’s name is engraved, and the recipient receives a mini shield, an award certificate and a book token, and has something special to put on their curriculum vitae if they're applying to university.

Awards are now made in nine primary schools. The new Keeble Gateway Primary Academy will be involved in the scheme when they have a year 6.........
