The latest sculptures forming part of the Sowerby Gateway Public Art Strategy have been unveiled at a new housing development in Thirsk.
Designed by Yorkshire based artist Steve Tomlinson, the four birds and two horses have been installed at Linden Homes’ Mowbray View.
The impressive sculptures are made of Corten steel and were inspired by the local horse racing heritage and wildlife.
The artwork complements other sculptures previously installed in the area as part of the wider Public Art Strategy for Sowerby Gateway, which was implemented by Hambleton District Council in 2022.
Commenting on the sculptures, Steve said: “I am incredibly proud to have contributed to the collection of sculptures in Thirsk through this commission.
It was really important that the pieces complemented the other works in the Sowerby Gateway and I was inspired by the brief to develop the themes that were celebrated in earlier works...
