Thirsk and Sowerby Festival...

10th August, 2024.

All agree, this was the biggest and busiest Thirsk and Sowerby Festival on the Flatts so far.

Despite a constant look upwards to increasingly threatening skies all day, Thirsk and Sowerby Festival arrived on the Flatts and surpassed itself for the range of stalls on offer to sample and events taking place on Sunday 4th August.

There were stalls of all types to visit all around the ground, to investigate or get advice on physical health or mental health or even buy from a wide range of charity stalls able to help.

Then there were the other stalls of many kinds and fairground attractions, or wander to food and beverages stalls.

It was nice to see charity plants stalls and the Herriot Hospice stall welcoming everyone to attend the Community Open Day in September, Chapel Street, Thirsk.

The Rotary Shelter for Emergencies display was well viewed, as was the local Yarn Bombers ladies display who do such a brilliant task of amusing visitors around the town with their knitted displays throughout the year. Sowerby W.I. had a stall with cakes and home made goods for the Herriot Hospice Appeal.

Thirsk Rotary Club proudly explained their annual Thirsk Christmas Lights celebration on November and December at Thirsk Garden Centre and charity Santa round the Streets tours.

Then there were the activity displays where many people tried their hands at axe throwing, archery with the always popular Thirsk Bowmen, dog agility events or climbing and cave exploration experiences for the intrepid adventurers to sample.
