International Axe Throwing Competition at Thirsk...

Over the August Bank Holiday Thirsk Race Course was buzzing as it filled with a weekend of axe throwing by contestants arriving from around the world to see stalls of all types selling exotic alcoholic beverages, eat foods, buy jewellery and wooden items, boxes etc., among other things.

There was even an early Medieval weaponry and armour display at one stall. And, to cap it off, they and the visitors could enjoy a Viking settlement with Saxon and Viking warriors showing off their clothing, home items and weaponry, and fighting skills.

Ian Radmore had gathered a wide range or dedicated and very enthusiastic axe throwers from many countries and out of our own British Isles to Thirsk where they could enjoy the hospitality of the town and the district.

The BBC news interviewed him while over two hundred competitors from over thirteen nationalities wandered around the grounds and enjoyed the friendly rivalry and camaraderie of the event.

It was pleasant to see the colourful badges on team uniforms and hear the many languages spoken.

Everyone was very friendly as they chatted away to onlookers about the skills and events and mixed with other teams over the three days of the event, despite mishaps with the British weather.

Between the previous two, Alan Simpson took 26.58.
