Summer Music Festival in Thirsk...

31st August, 2024.

Once again, Benjamin Ellin, musical director, and Emily Taylor have created a very popular and successful musical extravaganza in Thirsk over four days between 15th and 18th August.

They bring together all of the artistic and musical talents around the area in the Vale of Mowbray at their de Mowbray Music Festival, sponsored by Severfield.

Starting on Thursday evening at Thirsk Town Hall, pianist Daniel McLaughlin, vocalist Eleanor Sandars, and singer Alexander Barria entertained a packed hall to an “Evening at the Musicals”, from Les Miserables, West Side Story and up to Wicked.

Fred and Bert’s Coffee provided refreshments.

Friday night saw a full audience listening to a thrilling Mozart Requiem and other clerical pieces sung in excellent acoustics by Cambridge Chamber Consort and Durham Voices, who all love to sing wonderful music together on any occasion.

The orchestra was conducted by Mr. Ellin and led by Matthew Chadbond, with choral director Dan Sladen. All of the events have been supported by Herriot Hospice Homecare.

On Saturday the music took place first at Thirsk Market Place in sunshine, with an individual singer and a small children’s group singing popular songs by Abba, among others, from Butterflies, based at Rural Arts, in Westgate, at the Old Court.

The morning was topped off by guitarist and teacher Mark Stevenson performing to a good crowd sipping beverages around the central café tables.
