Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers...

31st August, 2024.

The 12th running of the Sessay Swift 6k took place on Wednesday evening (14th August), an event which has gone from strength to strength over the years and filling up as soon as it is advertised!

Appreciation to all who entered, to local running clubs, with a special mention of Ripon Runners who had more than 70 entrants in the race.

Missing from the company was Race Director, Duncan Fothergil, who was taken ill a few days before.

He is now on the road to recovery but he was ably substituted by Ken Wood and Helen Ashworth who made sure everything progressed smoothly.

Also to all the club members and friends who assisted with marshalling etc.

Once again, it was a pleasant, dry evening, perhaps rather too warm for running, but the winner, Daniel Cheeseman of City of York AC, finished in 18.45, just a little short of the course record.

Last year's winner, Tom O'Mahoney of Richmond and Zetland was 2nd in 18.58 and 3rd was Dom Carter of York Postal Harriers in 19.47.

1st Lady was last year's winner, Abby Barker of Stockton Striders, 51st overall, in 24.00, with Emma Fleming, also of Stockton Striders, 57th in 24.39 and Lucy Oldroyd of Harrogate Harriers 3rd, 64th in 24.57. First club member was Freddy Wharton, 14th in 21.50, with 2nd, Joseph Martlew 18th in 21.59 and 3rd, Ben Morgan, 25th in 22.13. Greg MacDonald took 22.39, with Luke McNiff not far behind in 22.44.

Evergreen Paul Peacock, consistent on any surface, was 1st M60, 49th in 23.47 with new member, Tristan Sillars, having a good run to finish 59th in 24.43. Chris Coates and Adam Harper-Walker came in close together, 74th and 75th respectively in 25.19 and 25.32. Paul Atkinson and another new member, Jonathon Conway were also involved in a sprint finish, 26.02 and 26.07 respectively before 1st club lady, another who is happy on any surface, 89th in 26.24. 2nd club lady was Bronwyn Mayo, 93rd in 26.49, and Lorraine Hiles 3rd lady, 100th in 27.04.

Between the previous two, Alan Simpson took 26.58.
