Thirsk Falcons U11 Blues v Boroughbridge U11s...

21st December, 2024.

It was a freezing morning at Boroughbridge high school after a beautiful sunrise for the drive down the A1 from Thirsk.

A keen but well-mannered rivalry exists between these teams, with the last match for some of the lads being a friendly shield clash at the end of last season, ending in a late draw and penalty shootout.

Proceedings got off to a lively start, with Thirsk making the first shot on goal, just wide to win a corner that called on the home goalkeeper to get the ball safe.

Thirsk were exerting pressure on their opponents, creating chances and taking the game into the home side’s half at every opportunity.

But it was a loose ball picked up by Boroughbridge who created the first converted chance, working their way around the Thirsk midfield and defence before a shot hit the back of the net.

Thirsk were straight back and after the Boroughbridge keeper was out of his area, a chance for the visitors presented an opportunity which the lads weren’t quite able to finish before Boroughbridge cleared the danger.

A spell of possession followed for the home team before a Thirsk ball towards the goal that didn’t quite make it over the line.

This was a hard fought match, both sides hungry for goals.

A shot for the lads sailed wide of the post before they were able to make a break and slot the ball home to level the scoreline ahead of the halftime whistle.
