A development of 47 energy efficient, affordable homes in Thirsk is hugely welcome for bringing much-needed affordable homes to the area.
I recently visited the new development on Saxty Way in the town with Northern housing association and developer Karbon Homes, viewing both the first phase of homes which welcomed their residents at the end of 2023 and a selection which are close to completion.
Accompanied by colleagues from Karbon and main contractor T Manners & Sons, I was impressed by the energy efficiency of the new builds, which all achieve an energy performance certificate rating A, boast solar PV panels and are powered by air source heat pump systems.
This new Karbon Homes housing development is a fantastic demonstration of how to utilize innovative techniques. It not only provides housing for people in Sowerby, it's creating new habitats for wildlife and boosting our region’s biodiversity. I look forward to seeing the progress of the project.
The Saxty Way development consists of a mix of two bed bungalows, one bed flats, and two and three bed family houses. Of the homes, 22 will be available for affordable rent and 25 for a mix of Rent to Buy and shared ownership, providing local people with the opportunity to get a foot on the property ladder.
