The World of James Herriot in Thirsk has sponsored a red parrot named Zeke at Morndyke parrot sanctuary near Thirsk.
Zeke is a green-winged Macaw who hatched in 2018 and following his rescue he was brought to Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary where he has been cared for, nurtured and released into the largest aviary in the country.
Morndyke’s aim is to let all their parrots to enjoy freedom, live with other feathered friends, have space for flight and do as they please plus food of the highest quality to endure the healthiest lives.
Ian Ashton Managing Director of the World of James Herriot said: “Alf Wight (James Herriot) wrote stories about his experiences with birds and in several memoirs, he cares for Gerry the parrot, whom he notes has been with the household “for years and years” — around 40–45 in one on-screen passage. We wanted to support this very worthy local cause and chose Zeke for his beautiful red plumage which perfectly matches the red door entrance of the World of James Herriot.”
