Thirsk Repair cafe gives 75% success rate...

The idea of a Repair Cafe in Thirsk was first discussed in 2020, but due to the pandemic was unable able to start until June last year.

The repair cafe was proposed by members of the St Oswald's Church men's breakfast gathering, recognizing the growing need to improve our environment by reducing the number of items destined for waste disposal, and save money by reducing the need to buy new items.

Together with Thirsk friends of the Earth an appeal to help start this project has resulted in bonding a team of like minded, skilled and enthusiastic volunteers, running a Repair Cafe session every few weeks upstairs in the Thirsk Library.

The Repair Cafe volunteers have tackled and succeeded in repairing on average 70% to 80% of the items brought in, which include mostly electrical goods, various tools for sharpening, sewing repairs, wood work and the list goes on.

The basic criterion is that if you can carry it we will try to repair it (but no microwaves ovens..........
