A Hambleton and Richmondshire hospice leader has been awarded an OBE in the King’s New Year’s Honours List.

Tony Collins, Chief Executive of Hambleton and Richmondshire-based Herriot Hospice Homecare has been awarded the honour in recognition of his service to the community.

Tony, who is also the Chief Executive of specialist bereavement and emotional wellbeing service Just ‘B’ and Harrogate-based Saint Michael’s Hospice, has been a leader in the hospice community in Yorkshire and the North East for 27 years, and also sits on the board of national charity Hospice UK.

Tony has been awarded the honour in recognition of his hospice care and emotional wellbeing work, as well as community work as a minister with the Church of England.

This includes increasing hospice care in the place people call home, increasing accessibility to hospice care for those in rural areas, and introducing Yorkshire’s first specialized community bereavement service – Just ‘B’ – in 2009.
