Swimming for a record...

16th July, 2022.

Jasmine Harrison, Thirsk swimming teacher and transatlantic rower, is now swimming from Lands End to John O’Groats. As the youngest female to row solo across the Atlantic she earned at age 21 her place in the Guinness Book of Records.

She was also awarded the Freedom of Thirsk and of Sowerby by their respective councils in recognition of her achievement.

It was all the more remarkable because she had no experience of rowing when she decided to enter the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, described as the world’s toughest row, but there is a spirit of adventure in Jasmine or as she puts it: “Jasmine: get it done!” If she competes the present 900 mile swim she will be the first woman to do so.

Only two men are credited with the feat so far.........
