Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers...

On a cooler evening than of late, 7 Harriers were among the 69 who entered the latest fell race, race 6 in the Dave Parry Summer Series, Cock Howe and Beyond.

The race began as usual with a circuit of the car park to sort runners out before the lung busting climb up to Cock Howe, 250m (820ft) in 2km (1.2miles).

The course continued over difficult heather and bilberry mounds to Head House, and then dry, sandy tracks before the plunge back down giving an opportunity for some sporting descents!

Alan Simpson was first club finisher, 41st in 60.07, with Marc Davies close behind, 42nd in 62.04, Helen Ashworth 51st in 65.32, David Tervit 54th in 66.20, Fran Jeffery 55th in 66.46, Rosie Gatenby, in her first fell race, 61st in 71.31 and Duncan Fothergill 63rd in 72.25. Helen was 1st F55, Fran 3rd F40 and Rosie 6th Open.

In a rare occurrence, the club sported both a mens and a ladies team, the ladies finishing in 2nd place and the men 5th.........
