Ritz Cinema News...

PETER BARR, who more than anyone else is responsible for the survival of the cinema in Thirsk, to the point when it was taken over by the present volunteer group, has sadly died.

I wrote an account of how he and his wife Christine took over the cinema, and ran it, as well as a hardware business in the Market Place (still sorely missed!).

He only gave up his place on the Ritz projectionists rota comparatively recently, after a career which ran from projectors lit by carbon arcs to the current computerized digital projectors................
