Queen Mary's School is latest North Yorkshire School to be recognized as a School of Sanctuary ...

Queen Mary's School, an all-girls independent school located near Topcliffe, is the latest North Yorkshire school to receive the prestigious School of Sanctuary award.

The school celebrated by organizing a special WWW Day exploring Welcome, Wellbeing and Wisdom, where the whole school community came together with guest speakers and activities including philosophy, yoga, outdoor theatre and an inspiring talk from Old Maryan, Ionica Adriana, discussing her experience of her adoption from an orphanage in Romania.

Sara Trewhitt, Schools of Sanctuary Lead at City of Sanctuary UK who attended a ceremony at the school on WWW Day to present the School of Sanctuary award certificate says: “Schools are at the heart of our local communities and are at the forefront of providing support to young people seeking safety in the UK. We are delighted to recognize Queen Mary’s as a school that has gone above and beyond to ensure that their young people are educated about seeking sanctuary.

We also note the fantastic efforts they have made to support a newly arrived pupil from Ukraine who has sought sanctuary in North Yorkshire................
