Ritz Cinema Thirsk Mission: Impossible - A Close Encounter ...

With all the turmoil surrounding the actors and screenwriters strike in the US and the perilous state of various cinema chains nationwide it's good to know that there are blockbusters on release that will hopefully get audiences rushing into our hard-hit venues., one such, with local connections is the recently released is Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

As a volunteer at the Ritz in Thirsk I'm often inquisitive if I come across what looks like a location shoot as I always think there may be some potential for a filmic link with our cinema.

What seems like way back in April 2021 I was out on a very long run and came across what looked like a shoot as I was crossing the North Yorkshire Moors Railway lines at Farwath near Levisham.

I stopped to ask what was going on but was told there was - naturally - a veil of secrecy over a movie shoot.

After a bit of chat about our lovely cinema and the fact we've been linked with a few films I teased out that it was 'Mission: Impossible', to be honest I thought it was a wind up and continued on my way.

Later at home I discovered it was all over social media (the bane of secrecy) so found it was true that Tom Cruise was actually there then and shooting a scene that day................
