For our June meeting, we welcomed Daphne Dawson from York. Her title was "All Shapes and Sizes".
Throughout the demonstration she emphasized the importance of foliage and twigs, all of which were from her own garden. She also highly valued using materials found when foraging.
She began with a low basket, covered in twigs, holding Pittosporum, Crytomeria, Japonica and Alstromeria. This was followed by two wreath rings, covered in Lawson Cypress.
These contained Contorted Hazel, ferns, ivy, Fatsia, Choisya and hostas, to which she added yellow gerbera and chrysanths. It was a limited colour palette but very eye-catching.
The third item used a tall glass container, surrounded by a web of red Ligolina, topped with foliage, deep pink roses, peonies, and gerbera, plus purple statice. The final effect was of a bouquet.
Then a hollow log container was filled with Hellebore, Hebe, Viburnum and ferns.
Two wreath rings were covered in red wool, the colour echoed by red rosee, with orange roses and white gypsophila adding sparkle.
