Excellent historical re-creation celebration came to Thirsk Church...

Thirsk church entertained a large number of visitors on Saturday afternoon with a free living history celebration.

The very curious and eager audience wandered around the church, keen to see what was on offer and to learn more about Saxon England and the Church.

There were a number of working demonstrations, from wool spinning and weaving from York and District Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, delicious local mead to sample, a variety of interesting foods to eat, and beautiful handmade embroidery items and jewellery to buy.

There were traditional beautifully scented wax candles for sale as well.

The event was created by film maker Oliver Murray, director and writer, with his historical display of weapons, helmets, and screen displays giving more information about artefacts that had been discovered, including a modern recreation of the famous Viking helmet displayed in York...............
