TOURIST OFFICE...

One of the last acts of the old Hambleton District Council which will have a positive effect on the economy in Thirsk, was the sale of the building in the Market Place (a former public toilet) to its present incumbent, the volunteer-run Thirsk Tourist Office.

It was previously held on a one year lease, and while it was usually automatically renewed, the change will remove a recurring layer of uncertainty over this established part of the local economy.

The guiding spirit of the organization, Peter Rush, says that while in financial terms the change will make little difference – the organization that runs it has been liable for repairs and upkeep, it will make running it easier and more economical...............
