Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers Run a Successful Thirsk 10...

22nd March, 2025.

It was the busiest weekend of the year for the club, with over 900 finishers at the ever popular Thirsk 10 and a record 65 entries at the Fun Run, organized by Lorraine Hiles and Faith Coy.

A fine, dry, chilly though sunny, morning greeted runners, with wind a definite factor in places, and each of the fun runners was delighted to receive a medal, an Easter egg and a pair of running socks.

The main race, an hour later, was started by Yorkshire Vet, Julian Norton, and the winner was Nathan Edmundson of Ilkley Harriers, just missing the 50 minute mark in a superb time of 50.10 with 2nd placed Adam Theaker of Loftus an Whitby not quite a minute behind in 51.50 and 3rd was Jake Ridding of Sunderland AC in 51.57.

Winning lady was Davina Ellis of Harrogate Harriers in 63rd overall in 60.43, with 2nd lady Poppy Cook of Ackworth AC, 72nd in 61.38 and 3rd, 80th finisher, was Helen Cross of York Knavesmire in 62.17.

As well as a large number of members and friends , 52, marshalling and generally helping, 24 members actually ran the race, 15 men and 9 ladies.

The fastest club man was perhaps predictably, Tom Levi in an excellent 9th place, 55.03 minutes. Matt Jones was next club finisher, 62nd in 60.55, with Luke McNiff 85th in 62.30, Charles Lamb 194th in 69.07. George Jackson took 70.38, Tristan Sillars took 71.21, and fastest club lady was Tilly Bland, 244th in 72.12.

Next member was Andreas Kruger, 247th in 72.26, with Paul Atkinson taking 73.51, Chris Coates 77.59, Andy Butcher 79.14, Dave Wood 79.24, and Kerri-Lee Wooding 81,46.

It was a first Thirsk 10 for new member, Vanessa Arthur and she was delighted both with the race and her time of 84.30. Next was Samantha Weston, and regular Clare Tempest was also there, as were David Tervit (another regular), Liz Wordsworth, Chris Wordsworth, Sara Armitage, Will Jagger, Megan Richardson and Laura Till. Well done to all of you - Ten miles is a long way to run!
