Green Councillor for Sowerby...

Local elections are not always very exciting, but this year’s County Council elections did provide some surprises and some excitement. There are now for the first time five Green Party County Councillors, one of whom is Dave Whitfield representing Sowerby and Topcliffe.

In Thirsk Councillor Gareth Dadd was returned for the Conservatives, who retain overall control of the new Unitary Authority with 47 of the 70 seats. This is down on the three-quarters majority they hold on the old Council. Turnout across the County was a fairly respectable 38%.

District Councillor Mark Robson, although not elected to the County, remains Chair of Sowerby Parish Council and leader of the Conservative group on Hambleton District Council, which remains in existence until April 2023......
