Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers ...

4th May April, 2024.

Amazingly, members arrived for the start of the Spring East Coast 5k at Redcar to find a warmish evening and no wind! When did you ever not get wind on the East coast?

The race, organized by Graham Hall and New Marske Harriers, was well attended with 32 Harriers among the High class field of 184, and Freddy Wharton demonstrating that he is just as good on a flat 5k as he is in his more usual fall race.

Freddy finished 28th in a time of 18.02, about 3 minutes slower than the fastest finisher, but nevertheless an excellent time on an evening when several members achieved PBs.

Matt Jones was only just behind, 29th in 18.11 with Joe Martlew close on his heels, 32nd in 18.18. Paul Peacock put in his usual good performance to come 32nd in 18.55 and Richard Grant 42nd in 18.57. Ken Wood took 20.12, Dave Kavanagh, getting into gear, 20.36, Chris Coates 20.53, Ros Kruger 22.12, Andrew Pollard, another runner finding his feet, 22.18, Marty Coy 22.22, stalwart Rob Burn 22.29, Brett Edgeworth 22.41, just ahead of Lorraine Hiles, 22.44. Paul Atkinson took 23.31, Pete Jackson 23.33, David Tervit 23.34, Louise Mayfield 23.52, and Joe Joyce 24.01. Guest runner, Anne Davies, took 24.16, Kerri-Lee Wooding 24.20, Tessa Grant 24.24, Rosie Gatenby 24.47, Ruth Pollard and Duncan Fothergill in a dead heat for 24.57, Helen Ashworth 25.00, Annie Hedger 25.36, Alan Docherty 25.39, Kirsty Naylor 25.41, Nigel Morgan 30,53, Christine Burn 32.37, with Ian Codling bringing up the rear.
