Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers...

25th May, 2024.

Some members undertake the most gruelling of events, instance Fran Jefferey with her Coast to Coast challenge a week or two ago, but the Hardmoors 110 - exactly what it says on the tin - is 110 miles over hard moors, ie the North York Moors!

The start is at Filey Brigg before encircling the North York Moors, Cleveland Hills and following the coastline via Scarborough, Ravenscar, Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby, Staithes, and Saltburn then across the moors to finish at Helmsley.

36 hours is allowed, which, of course, involves running through the night, and no runner could attempt this without huge support from family and friends - our entrants, Paul Peacock and Duncan Fothergill are extremely grateful to you all.

The resilient and determined Paul Peacock, who will finish high up in any event from 5k to 110 miles, finished in 4th place in under 24 hours, a superb result.

The equally determined Duncan Fothergill almost ran himself into the ground, and despite his best efforts, had to give up after 90 miles.

Imagine having run all that way, having to stop and being unable to complete the last 20 miles - no mean distance at any time.

Many congratulations to both of you on even setting out on such a challenge.
