The weekend saw metaphorical green shoots in multiple forms for Sessay CC Emeralds teams.
On Saturday afternoon an Emeralds 2nd XI travelled to the Valley to play a warm up match .v. Ampleforth College Girls 1st XI. The match provided debut opportunities for a number of Emeralds players.
It was a similar case on Sunday at Saxton CC for Yorkshire Women’s THE100 (Round 1) 8-a-side mini festival at which Emeralds 1st team played matches against the host’s women’s team, followed by a second match .v. Sheffield Collegiate Women.
Toils
On Sunday afternoon at Bedale it was debuts galore for Sessay CC’s newest collective, the Emeralds Softball team. Although several of the team . . .
Sarah Banthorpe-Howlett (capt), Rachael Langstaff (w/k), Tessa Merritt, Shelley Till, Pippa Foster, Evie Marwood, Elspeth El Sayeh, Kaye Harker, Kirsty Bowers, Violet Merritt.

Result: SCC Emeralds Softball 209 for 14 lost to Bedale Ladies Softball 414 for 1 by 205 runs.
Nonetheless, it was smiles all round at the end, just as it should be. So, with a valuable but tough lesson from which to learn, the Emeralds Softballers will host East Harlsey CC Ladies when they take their next step into the slightly less ‘unknown’.
Tribulations
Rewinding 24 hours, an Emeralds 2nd XI got off to a surprisingly poor start against the College Girls 1st XI. Courtney Gounden making her first appearance in an Emeralds shirt was dismissed third delivery for a duck! Jess England and Lauren Howard then stabilized the innings with a productive stand before each retired. However, the Emeralds batting couldn’t sustain the recovery.
