Walking Tours and busy Thirsk...

10th May, 2025.

Last year, one of our neighbours started offering walking heritage tours of Thirsk, now she will have some competition from Herriot veterinary themed guided walks.

Every Friday at Noon, you will be shepherded around “The Real Darrowby”, for a fee of £5, or a combined ticket with admission to the Herriot Centre at £10, a saving of £3.50.

On one of my recent trips to Ripon and Harrogate, I couldn't help but notice the number of empty shops.

Thirsk has a few, but many have been filled by various types of “pamper parlour”, nails, tanning, hair and tattoos.

I have already commented on the iconic architecture of former and existing bank buildings, and I am glad to note that perhaps the least memorable, the former Lloyd's Bank premises has been skilfully adapted to house a new branch of an optical franchise.
