£1,000 fund-raiser for Community Works...

The owners of a Thirsk shop have raised £1,000 for the Thirsk charity Community Works as a thank-you for the support given to a family member by the organization and in particular by Gill Burn who is the lead on work with older people and runs the day centre at the Community Hub at Orchid House.

David Jackson, former Mayor of Thirsk, and his wife Jane, who own Well Heeled Boutique in Thirsk market place, chose to support Community Works because of the help they gave to a member of the family who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease at the age of 56.

“Without Gill and her team we would have struggled,” said Jane. David and Jane decided to run a draw, and put together a big basket full of goodies - scarves, gloves, jewellery, vouchers, and other nice things that would make lovely Christmas presents - and persuaded 100 of their customers to buy tickets for £10 each. Hey presto: £1,000...
