Carlton Lodge Activity Centre’s (Thirsk) initiative, the “Green Commute” to drive its eco-friendly agenda has produced some interesting outcomes in its first month.
Each team member has made a note of the number of green commutes they make and the first outcomes as an organization have completed 264 Journeys which is an average of 12.5 journeys per working day.
Chief Executive David Sharp said: “This is amazing and I am grateful to everyone who participated in the event. Working out my own carbon footprint impact, on average, one mile of driving equals 119g* of CO2, so my personal tally on an 8km (4.9 miles) round trip to work and back for the 12 times I managed it was 11.4kg. (8km x 12 trips x 119g = 11,424g).”
What is a green commute? The Carlton Lodge team have defined it as a journey to work or part of work that is helpful to the environment, so that’s walking, cycling, scooters, car sharing (but only the non-driver) using public transport (trains and buses – planes don’t count) and for those able, even using kayaks.
