In my ignorance, I would have thought, that with the established advent of broadband, and the availability of free wi-fi connections everywhere you can sit down with a sandwich or a cup of coffee, that coping with the internet was universally second nature, I should know better, since there is still a section of the population that is nervous of buying things on line, making appointments, doing ones banking, or paying bills electronically.
I must be honest with myself, and admit to my annoyance at the number of things that now are expected to be done with a computer, or a smartphone, like buying travel tickets or car park spaces.
So, the launch of a Digital Cafe in the Community Library in Thirsk is a welcome and useful initiative.
With a publicity boost on Saturday, with refreshments, and a formal cutting of a cake by the deputy mayor of Thirsk, Shirley Ward, the initiative, with funding support from North Yorkshire Council was declared open.
A posse of volunteer buddies will be on hand daily to advise on coping for the digital age, either with customers own devices, or on the library computers.
