The Falcons Golds were in action at Sowerby Sports Village on Sunday morning, with sun warming the pitch (& spectators) as the game kicked off.
Both teams started eagerly, exerting pressure and jostling to make their mark on the game and scoresheet.
But it was Thirsk who scored first; after the Billingham keeper kept out the initial shot, he couldn’t get back for the rebound shot which reached the back of the net.
The visitors were straight back out, pushing the lads and despite initial play on one side, soon the game was across the whole pitch and end to end as both goalkeepers got in on the action too.
Billingham made quick breaks and Thirsk were called on to defend.
The home team were hanging on to their lead until the lads conceded a penalty, which was cooly converted to bring the visitors level.
Changes were made to both teams and Billingham were pushing, confident in their opponent’s half and looking to take control of the match.
The Whites were also stopping the Golds’ charges up the wings in their tracks with hard tackles and doing what they could to regain possession.
However a Thirsk free kick just outside the box proved to be a dangerous shot which the Billingham keeper couldn’t reach as it sailed in above his reach, just ahead of the half-time whistle.
