As temperatures started to drop and clocks went back, the Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers were out embracing the bright and muddy conditions at Lockton Limping fell race, which is the third counter in the Esk Valley winter series.
Trudy Morrice, Fran Jeffery, Esther Harrison, Kirsty Naylor, Louise Mayfield, Paul Chapman, Alan Simpson and Ashleigh Dodgson took on the 6.6-mile course which covers some very steep climbs and fast descents, made all the more technical by the need to avoid sliding around too much.
Fran Jeffery reported that it was perfect weather for running, made all the better by being able to warm up in the village hall afterwards with hot drinks and delicious cakes, supplied by the WI.
Ashley Dodgson was the first Harrier home in 58:40, Esther Harrison secured 4th female in 1:01:04, Trudy Morrice won her age category in 1:07:52, closely followed by Paul Chapman in 1:08:21, then Alan Simpson in 1:14:36, Louise Mayfield was awarded 8th female prize in 1:15:28, followed by Fran Jeffery in 1:19:32 and Kirsty Naylor in 1:23:18.
Alongside the presentation of prizes for the day’s race, the prizes for the Summer Fell Series were also awarded – some more beautiful pottery for several members, including age category and overall female wins for Esther Harrison, age category win for Louise Mayfield, endurance prize for Lucy Sillars and the female team prize - with each contributor (Louise Mayfield, Rose Kruger, Esther Harrison, Kelly Grieve, Trudy Morrice, Rosie Gatenby, Helen Ashworth, Kim Wilkinson, Lucy Sillars, Lorraine Hiles and Sarah Fairhurst) receiving a handmade ceramic momento.
