Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers...

19th October, 2024.

The Dave Parry Winter Fell Race season got under way with the Viking Chase Four Peaks Race.

The race started at Lordstones on Carlton Bank, then a loop up and over Carlton Moor.

After crossing the road, there was a climb to Cringle Moor and Falconer's Seat and then to Broughton Bank before an up and down to Wainstones and a descent to Hasty Bank.

An abrupt about turn on the lower level path tracked back to Lordstones to finish - a real toughie to open, over 8 miles with 1,800 feet of ascent!

The promised poor forecast didn't materialize and the breezy, cool start on the tops gave way to a warm return leg in the lee of the wind.

Several hundred pounds were raised from the event for Cleveland Mountain Rescue, who marshalled the race.

Five Harriers took part, Esther Harrison recovering some of the form to finish 39th out of 118 in a time of 1.23.40, with Paul Chapman next in 1.38.10, Marc Davies 1.40.23, Fran Jeffery 1.48.21 and Lucy Sillars 2.03,03.
