Come and Play Day...

7th September, 2024.

Benjamin Eliis, of De Mowbray Music, organized a “Come and Play” day at Thirsk Town hall last Sunday, where he welcomed anyone who could play a musical instruments and wanted to play some classical music under his direction.

Most of the orchestra, who had arrived, with their instruments, were adults but there were also children of all ages involved.

The hall was crowded and a surprising number had travelled to join together and make music happen, and so successfully.

Everyone seems to have learned the scores extremely well and produced a very creditable level of musical accomplishment that was admirable for a small town orchestra.

There must be many good musicians living in the Thirsk area who were happy to learn under Mr. Ellis’s conducting abilities and play together very difficult classical pieces such as Dvorak’s Symphony number Nine and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony number Five.

The music was confident and well played all round, of whatever class of ability.

There were over thirty people performing and concentrating very hard to create a very clear, good sound on the day of hard work, and very rewarding for all concerned.
