#

20th December, 2019.

Finally, Thirsk Town played a home match on the Flatts last Sunday against Oddies W.M.C., a team they have played several times already. The pitch itself was increasingly soft and muddy from the recent poor weather but this did not stop the home team from working hard to play passing soccer around the pitch, with good effect. There was a difference in style between the two clubs, with Thirsk Town trying to pass the ball more and create moves to score, or defend in layered tackles by players who blocked more, while Oddies mainly tried kicking the ball around with less purpose. Liam Cook took only ten minutes to create the first goal from several moves around the Oddies half and found him aim accurately....

All lit up

#

6th December, 2019.

Once again the centre of Thirsk is ablaze with Christmas lights. Last Friday evening’s event attracted many families to see and hear the entertainers on stage with hosts Dougie and Chris, before Santa turned up and switched on the lights. And let’s hear it for the man who in the preceding weeks put up over 2,000 light bulbs, perched on a scissor lift: Ross Hagen from Dressers, whose job was made even trickier by the damp weather. The kids always enjoy the fantasy and novelty of the pop-up stage, the music and dancing and Santa, and this year although it was quite cold....

The pitch didn’t allow for a lot of attractive football to start off with, but with some passes upfield and down the wings we made a few openings. Primrose Hill were quick and strong though and were constantly putting the back three under pressure....
