Detectives have now confirmed that the victim of the assault, who had been fighting for life in hospital since the incident, has sadly died without regaining consciousness.
Last week, North Yorkshire Police appealed for information and witnesses after a serious assault in Thirsk left a man fighting for his life in hospital.
Detectives have now confirmed that the victim of the assault, who had been fighting for life in hospital since the incident, has sadly died without regaining consciousness.
He was 32-year-old Alan Barefoot, who was from South Kilvington, and had recently become a father again to a newborn daughter just a couple of weeks ago. He is pictured here with his daughter.
His devasted girlfriend Charlotte, has paid tribute to him as she urges anyone with any information about the assault to come forward to police.
“Alan was such an amazing boyfriend, son, brother, and friend to everyone who knew him. He was one of life’s good guys and just an all-round brilliant person.
“He was also the best daddy to our newborn daughter and our hearts have been shattered into a million pieces. It’s not possible to put into words how much we will miss him......

Thirsk took their fifth win in five league games in convincing style beating Rowntrees RUFC 57-7 who up to this game were Y4 leaders.
Thirsk got off to the best possible start with an early opportunist try as Thirsk’s fly half Chris Wood spotted space behind Tree’s rush defence and chipped the ball over for Thirsk’s wing Orisi Katalau to catch at speed, wrong foot the full back and run in from 30metres to dot down under the posts unapposed.
Alex Shepherd added the extras 7-0 within 10 minutes.
Thirsk then extended the lead with a well work try, finishing on the left wing, the conversion missed by Shepherd from wide out.
Thirsk’s forwards dominated the visitors forwards in the scrum and line out allowing them little of the ball to put up any sort of sustained momentum into their game.
With this dominance in the forwards the home side hit a 20 minute purple patch of 3 unanswered tries.
Starting with a fantastic team try, linking 8-10 different players before the ball eventually fell to Wood to score to the left of the posts and the conversion added again from Shepherd, making the score 26-0......

The match commenced with Falcons dominating, using individual skills to prevent the opposition from gaining a break and when Hawes did find some space it was quickly closed down.
On the occasion of Hawes finding a clear shot at goal, the Falcons keeper maintained composure, confidence and determination, performing some strong saves......

The thing that greets you when you walk into the East Thirsk Community Hall on a morning when the Parent, Baby and Toddler Group is in session is the happy noise of children running, playing, talking and laughing. Mums and sometimes Dads or grandparents are there too, but they tend to be a little quieter. I was invited to meet with Project Manager Jackie Wilson and Playleaders Amanda and Sara. As the children, including one or two dressed as princesses, played, Jackie recounted the difficulties they had faced during lockdown, but back on course they now attract families not just from East Thirsk but from a wide area, as far indeed as Easingwold. They run four sessions a week, some morning, some afternoon......

Another display that highlighted the development of the team. A tight early exchange that needed a special opening goal to really bring the game to life.
A long range effort finally broke the deadlock for the Clarets.
The game became open with both teams exchanging goals and eventually saw Thirsk Falcons take a narrow lead at half time.
The second half saw Thirsk play some fantastic link up play and were so effective in their transition from defence to attack......

Pride of place this week surely goes to Paul Peacock, winner of the Round Ripon Ultra over a challenging multi terrain course of 35 miles, with Andrew Price in 3rd place not too far behind.
Eight Harriers out of a field of 92 set out under broken cloud following Ripon Rowel, fairly flat to begin with, along the River Ure towards Masham. The rain started 2 hours earlier than forecast as the route turned to the west to pass through Swinton Bivouac and the next few miles saw 2000 feet of climb along moor tops and through several small villages.
The final section took in the very pretty Eavestone Lake before returning to Studley Roger via Fountains Abbey deer park......

Our latest crisis involves supplies of petrol and diesel to keep our cars, lorries and buses, our ambulances and fire engines on the move. Last weekend I heard the Transport Secretary assuring the world that there is no fuel shortage.
Why then do we have motorists driving from petrol station to petrol station, finding either long queues or no fuel at all? Last Monday morning I watched as Tesco's petrol station in the centre of Thirsk closed for business, with the staff assuring me that a delivery was expected soon.
Fortunately the other petrol stations in the area were still supplying fuel, although they were clearly busier than usual, and Tesco was soon partially reopened......
